Joanne Popham – Leader in Running Fitness
I have always loved running since an early age. At 12 I was training with the Swansea Harries I was not the fastest by any stretch of the imagination but I loved it, a coach told me my style was more suited to longer distance which is what I love now – 10miles and half marathon’s.
It wasn’t until 2009 when we had the devastating news my Dad had Kidney Cancer that I started to take running more seriously, running became my release and focus. That year I completed my first half marathon, Cardiff for the charity I was working for and I was hooked.
From then on I would organise teams of runners to take part in the Cardiff Half Marathon annually for charity and would provide training plans and organise group training for our team. As our teams grew and we continued to get non-runners keen to learn to run and complete their first half marathon I realised I really needed formal training to be able to confidently advice new runners.
In December 2015 I became a Leader in Running Fitness and currently I am completing my Running Coaching Course. My goal is to help every non-runner to enjoy the benefits of running to learn to run for life!
Tricia East – Fitness coach and Gym owner
Working in the fitness industry for many years, realised, that women did not do enough strength training and tended to work on their cardio. So I opened my own gym for women only and worked on strength training in a circuit of machines. I opened my Gym in 2005 which I had to apply all the skill I had learned, and learn a lot more.
Planning fitness programs, nutrition programs and strength training programs. Setting members personal and goal & targets for their individual expectations.
Having a passion for health and fitness which is a part of in my everyday lifestyle, I completed many half marathons such has the Cardiff half, Edinburgh half, and the Great North Run and lots more.
Joanne Popham being a personal friend who runs the Paul Popham Fund asked me to help out with the running club, seeing the development of the members confidence, we have now developed the Paul Popham running club which is growing in numbers and we are developing all the time.
