By | Latest News

14th July 2019!

That’s a wrap! Thank you one and all who took part, sponsored, volunteered, helped organise the 2019 series! As a result of everyone’s support, we have managed to raise £2,500 for the Paul Popham Fund, Renal Support Wales to support kidney patients participate in the British Transplant Games that take place in Newport from the 25th to 28th July 2019!

We were very unsure how this year would go when the event’s base, 360 Beach & Watersports closed at the end of last year. The team at Secret Beach Bar & Restaurant who have taken over the venue put all the stops out to make sure the event went smoothly, with the new venue opening for the last event in the series. We are very much looking forward to the 2020 series!

There will be developments in the series for 2020 with more category winners, overall series winner – clear scoring system and Girl and Boy 1st, 2nd and 3rd podium finishers for the 1k and 2,5k fun runs! Until then, check out the winners of the July series and the overall winners of the 5k series.

HUGE MASSIVE THANKS:

ALL participants, volunteers from PPRC – special shout out to Lee Heighway for organising the volunteer team, Scott Powell and daughter from Tri and Enter improving our timing system this year and from this year on, Rhys Morris for providing the music and entertainment, Faclk Medical Services for providing the medical cover for the whole series as part of our own going business partnership and to the staff and owners of Secret Beach Bar & restaurant staff. And finally thank you to all our sponsors Verdis, Gemeg, Home from Home, Freedom Leisure and The LC, J&S Products and First4Numbers without you all this event would not be possible so thank you, thank you!

Swansea Bay Summer 5k Series and Fun Run

13th June 2019!

It has to be said that we have been lucky with the weather, as with series 1 mother nature did not let us down and the sun came out just at the right time for our 2nd series in our 3rd Annual Swansea Bay Summer 5k Series & Fun Run on Thursday 13th June 2019. As with each series we have a Fun Run for children that start at 6pm before the main event the 5k, which starts at 7pm.

We anticipated doubling our numbers for the Kids 1k and 2.5k Fun Run from 15 for the first series to 30 for this event and we were not disappointed, over 30 children turned up to enjoy a fun and competitive event. It was wonderful to hear the children keen to be first but truly enjoying the run and supporting their family and friends whatever position they came across the line with lovely support from all the families for all of the children.

The 5k went off a few seconds after 7pm while we waited for stragglers (aka queuing for the port-a-loo) to join their fellow athletes at the start line. #nowheretohide! It was great to see our regular 5kers return, new faces and Club Teams participating, particularly wonderful to see all the clubs waiting for their team-mates and cheering them on to cross the finish line, helping to create a wonderful atmosphere.

The 5k series includes 3 events the final and 3rd event taking place on the 11th July. For each 5k event there are trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed runners in the Junior (11 to 15 years of age), Female and Male categories and on the last event the overall winner for each category is announced. There is also a trophy for the winner of the 1k and 2.5k Fun Run for the children 11 years of age and under. There is an overall series winner at the end of the series in each of the categories – Junior, Male and Female and watch this space we may include additional categories going forward.

The aim of the Swansea Bay Summer 5k Series and Fun Run is to being the running community of Swansea together, clubs and fun runners, to take part in an achievable distance under race conditions. Participants can aim to improve their time over the 3 events. While also raising money for the Paul Popham Fund, Renal Support Wales, who support kidney patients to lead a better quality of life. Proceeds from the 5k series will be going towards supporting a team of kidney patients compete in the British Transplant Games that are taking place in Newport this year.

HUGE Thanks to all participants, volunteers from PPRC (not including Mario Moruzzi and David Bivens #sacked lol, Scott Powell ad daughter from Tri and Enter, Rhys Morris for providing the music and PA and to the staff and owners of Secret Beach Bar & Restaurant staff, Secret is the starting point for the 5k Series is the old 360 which is soon to be opened under new management, it is wonderful to see it the development from the last series and we thank Ryan Hole and Team of Secret for providing the catering. Thanks also to Stephen Arnold for taking the photos and of course a massive thank you to all our sponsors Verdis, Gemeg, Home from Home, Freedom Leisure and The LC, J&S Products and First4Numbers & Falck for providing the first aid cover. We are also hoping to raise over £3000 for the Paul Popham Fund to support kidney patients to compete in the transplant games.

9th May 2019

The 3rd Annual Swansea Bay Summer 5k Series & Fun Run got off to a good start on Thursday 9th May 2019. As many are aware the 5k start and finish is from the old 360, which is currently under development from the new owners – SEVEN – due to the this we were all a little uncertain of how the first event in the 2019 series would go – and I think it can be said – we needn’t have worried. SEVEN, PPRC and Nigel Jones, Welsh Athletics official (and mother nature) all came together to make sure that despite a lack of facilities the event went off to a GREAT start! Nigel brought his p

ortable office, SEVEN brought the outside catering and PPRC brought the willing volunteers and mother nature brought the sun out just at the right time!

The Kids 1k and 2.5k Fun Run got off to a good start with a total of 15 children in our first event, hoping this will double for the next event with some local schools getting their pupils involved in this fun event. The 5k had a total of 101 registering online and 67 sign up on the night the total entrants for the first event were 168!

The 5k series includes 3 events the next two are on the 13th June and 11th July. There is an overall series winner at the end of the series in each of the categories – Junior, Male and Female and watch this space we may include additional categories going forward…….

HUGE Thanks to all participants, volunteers from PPRC, SEVEN staff, Scott Powell and daughter from Tri and Enter (Just happened to be Scott’s birthday on our first event!) and Rhys Morris who stepped in at the last hour with his PA and music. Thanks to Helen Bivens and Angela Harris for taking the photos and of course a massive thank you to all our sponsors Verdis, Gemeg, Home from Home, Freedom Leisure and The LC, J&S Products and First4Numbers & Falck for providing the first aid cover. We are also hoping to raise over £3000 for the Paul Popham Fund to support kidney patients to compete in the transplant games.

WEST GLAM XC FINALE

I would like to say a massive thank you to all PPRC Members who have attended the West Glam XC races this season 2018/2019 and those who have come to support, especially Emma Louise Jones who is always somewhere along the route with her camera. We have an amazing team who have all contributed to getting points on the board for PPRC. Thank you!

17th March, saw the last of the races at Gnoll Park and a first for a few of our ladies. It was a real tough muddy one everyone should be extremely proud. All ran a fantastic race and I’m sure we have picked up some great points for both the men and women.

The ladies were promoted last season and look like they will retain their position in that league after a solid season… It’s now a waiting game to see whether the men have gained enough points to get promotion into the next league.

Whatever happens, we have had a great season and a great team!

Thank you one and all.

Cheers

Steve Arnold
