October 2019

By Latest News

Next Sunday 20th October sees the return of the West Glam XC league with the Llanmadoc race. Due to beach erosion, last year’s alternative course will be used again this year, which will be about 4.5 miles and a mixture of gravel, grass and sand.

This season we need to get a consistent number of both male and female members at these events to ensure we build up points and show club participation. Remember, you are racing against your division and not all runners, so even if you finished in position 100, that could still mean you finish in the top 10 of your division. I won’t confuse you with the points scoring as it’s not necessary, but the West Glam website explains it if you really want to know.

After the success of the men’s team winning the league and promotion last season, we will be presented with our trophy at this event.

The race starts at 11:00 with registration open at 9:45. This event is at risk due to parking issues and upsetting residents, so we need to car share where possible. The plan will be to meet at the LC for 9:00-9:15 and leave for the event by 9:30.

If you would like to participate in this event, please comment below so I can get numbers together and we can sort out car share.

Other West Glam Info
You are running for Paul Popham Running Club so you MUST wear the green and black club top.

Make a note of your Welsh Athletics Affiliation/membership number which will be on your membership card or available by going to the Welsh Athletics website. You will need this when registering for the event and paying his is important as some events will NOT allow guest runners.

There will be limits placed on entries into each race this season due to capacity limits of venues, but I will advise if we need to reduce our numbers on any race, but I’m not guessing this will be an issue for our club based on previous seasons. For Llanmadoc, there will be no guest runners, so you must be affiliated to Paul Popham Running Club Club to race.

All clubs have been also asked to be mindful of course volunteers and that the XC is a race, so all those participating should be able to run the whole course.

The fees have increased this season to £4 affiliated and £6 unaffiliated.
